Prepare for bitterly cold weekend

The forecast is showing frigid temperatures Friday to Sunday Jan 23-25.

Now is the time to ensure you have a plan to stay warm and to protect your pipes:

> Ensure hydrants and water lines that are exposed to cold are wrapped.

> Know the location of your shutoff in the event of a leak when thaw starts. Have a plan to detect leaks and shut off the water to your property if needed.

> Ensure you have safe, reliable heat and the surrounding area is uncluttered. It is not too late to pick up an additional space heater.

> Check on neighbors who may need help.

>Icy conditions are expected. Have a plan to avoid slippery walkways and roads.

>Think about lifestock and outdoor pets who will need shelter and access to water that is not frozen.

City staff will be busy ensuring water and wastewater processing continues without interruption.

This kind of weather is not exactly unfamiliar to us, but it has been a warm winter and temperatures in the single digits are quite a shock!

Take care!
