Command Center Updates May 24 - Scrap metal at field house until end of day Tuesday then it's done!
May 24, 2025
Thank you to everyone who was still hard at it today. Considering the holiday weekend and the baseball playoff in Weatherford I was a little surprised there were still a lot of folks out working in the heat helping neighbors or strangers or getting their property closer to normal. We see and appreciate you!
> The school has been collecting clean scrap metal at the field house but will be hauling off and closing the site on Wednesday. If you want to drop material you must do so by end of day Tuesday or maybe Wednesday morning if you can get there early. There will be more information on additional metal and trash sites as we sort through our debris strategy.
> I am told you should ask your insurance company about debris removal when you file a claim.
> You can drop off brush at the wastewater treatment plan off Cemetery Road noon-4 on Sunday and then 8-4 Monday-Friday.
> The Command Center will not be open on Sunday but we plan to be open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday next week.
- Light breakfast, snacks and sandwiches will be available open to close.
- Monday we will have BBQ sandwiches at noon.
- Tuesday Juarez Taco will have carnitas at noon.
- Every day there will be drinks, a place to cool down and use the restroom, sunscreen and other donated supplies and folks to visit with. Our volunteers can help connect you with services.
- Please call Sherrye 682.478.9124 to sign up to volunteer. We need 2 folks 8:30-1 and 1-5:30, approximately.
> Community Committee meetings are tentatively planned for Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm, split into "People" and "Debris." Look here for confirmation on date and time.
We have moved on to the more challenging clean-up activities that require equipment. I know some folks are feeling like the volunteers are clearing out and they may have missed the boat. There are a lot of folks committed to the long haul and making Gordon even better. I invite you to join me in trusting that the organization and planning we are working hard on is going to get us there and that there is no shortage of support.
I am very much behind on responding to emails, texts and voicemails and hope to catch up in the next couple of days. If you have reached out I am not ignoring you!
Please encourage others to sign up for alerts and news and to keep their chins up!
