City Notes May 2

Public Service Appreciation Week May 4-11: We are proud to be partnering with Mingus and Strawn to host a Tri-City Public Service Appreciation Lunch on May 9 noon-2 at the Mingus Community Center. Local public servants who work in law enforcement, city administration, water departments, Palo Pinto County, etc. are invited. Please rsvp [email protected]. This is a chance to show gratitude to those who provide the 7 day a week / 24 hour a day services that make our quality of life possible.

Resurfacing of Hwy 919 rescheduled to start May 4: This is a TXDOT project spanning from I-20 to Travis St. It is our understanding work will be done at night to minimize impacts.

Lightning alarm: The welcome spring rains have started and you may have heard the alarm at the ball fields in the NE part of town. This alarm is for the safety of players, coaches, and spectators who are vulnerable to strikes at open ball fields. These alarms are not intended as storm warnings for the general public. Per GISD, the alarm goes off when lightning is detected 10 miles away and an “all clear” alarm sounds when it has been 30 minutes since the last detection.

Chlorine Conversion continues through May 14: Disinfection of water using a different kind of chlorine will continue through May 14 to improve water quality over the longer term. Your water may have some discoloration or different odor/taste. As always, we work under the oversight and partnership of TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality).
