City Notes June 16
June 16, 2025
Join us for the July 4th celebrating starting with parade at 6pm and followed by hot dogs and drinks at Heritage Park and the annual fireworks grand finale. Better yet, start planning your float! We will have bounce houses, sidewalk chalk and bubbles and look forward to celebrating the strength and resilience of Gordon.
City Hall Hours
- City Staff are juggling some priorities and there will be reduced hours for a bit.
- Please leave a message at 254.693.5676. For urgent issues call Sherrye and leave a message 682.478.9124.
Line Upgrade Project
- Construction along Elm is complete but the cutover to new line is pending. Returning properties to pre-construction condition is planned. We are working with the contractor to get target dates.
- Line upgrade on N. Walnut is planned for completion soon. W Rusk and Travis are the next phases to be started.
Debris Disposal
- Brush drop at the wastewater treatment plant on Cemetery Road is scheduled to resume this week, weather permitting.
- The dumpsters east of the VFD along the railroad tracks are available for residents to drop storm-related debris. Please find other options for brush.
- The City has elected to remove debris piles that are combined from multiple properties, are a risk of being re-distributed by storms, or other case-by-case scenarios. The City of Stephenville generously voted to waive landfill fees for carriers authorized by the City. This is a big cost saver.
- If you need guidance or support for tornado non-organic debris (not brush) please contact Sherrye 682.478.9124.
Tornado Recovery
- Many survivors are far from normal and face challenges that are lengthy and complex to solve dealing with repairs and insurance. The continuation of storms triggers stress as individuals relive May 18. We may not have the ability to erase these things but we see and hear them and are looking for ways to support.
- A Case Manager is being hired to connect survivors with resources. This uses donated funds and is not paid for from the Tornado Relief Fund.
- The Case Manager will present “unmet needs” to a Long Term Recovery Committee (LTRC) that is being created to handle needs compassionately and with respect for privacy.
- No funds from the Tornado Relief fund have been spent yet. Funds will be allocated based on unmet needs for survivors. No decisions have been made on who will or will not get funds, only that the funds are for impacted residents.
- The Case Manager and LTRC are not City functions but we have elected officials and staff who support or will sit on them. We feel a responsibility to ensure they are established.
- No one is restricted from working directly with our amazing churches and other generous community donors.
Thank you for reading this update. We hope for milder weather and peace of mind for each one of you.
